Stop. Gap.

The intro…

Hello and welcome to this week’s blog!

I’m afraid it’s another sparse one this week and if it wasn’t for other things happening I’d likely have left posting until next week. There is stuff I REALLY want to talk about though and it can’t really wait until next week so while I’m already 2 days late as I start writing this, I’m going to crack on and do it anyway!

Patreon update…

Yes, the first thing I need to cover is a Patreon update! It’s technically the very last day that I’m able to post this out as the month ends TODAY so I’d best get a move on eh?

The last thing for me to talk about in terms of Q4’s gifts are these 3D printed beauties…

Courtesy of fellow Exile Josh Hall, I’ve got a 3D printed diplomatic/senatorial shuttle for each of the legend level patrons! Maybe you’re running a custom HotAC style campaign or maybe you’d just like to proxy one of these in to dissuade your opponent from shooting at you! Either way, these fit nicely on a small base and are printed with a peg hole to go straight onto your bases (though it is a little loose…).

These are as well as the focus tokens, 4 straight template and alt art cards I’ve already talked about in previous weeks AND there’s a giveaway AS WELL! Each Patron gets a number of entries based on their support tier and I will be doing a live draw on my Instagram account some time next week once the month is over.

Since things are a little later than usual AND because how Patreon is charging new supporters is changing from next Monday (the 4th of November) I will be extending the qualification period for Q4 so as long as you sign up by Sunday night (though I don’t know exactly when as I’m not sure where Patreon takes it’s time zone from!) you will be eligible for this quarter.

If you’d like to support the blog then you can sign up here.

Thanks again to all my supporters!

The, uh, main bit…?

So, as I said, bit weird today. I did actually play a game last week which I really want to talk about because it was super fun and VERY close but unfortunately circumstances have conspired to prevent me from writing it.

What circumstances you ask?

Decorating.

I’m not a particularly ‘handy-man’ type of person. I can get by, sure, but full room renovations are somewhat outside of my usual comfort zone.

Last year we moved into a 100-ish year old house and while we repainted most of it not long after moving in, my wife had bigger plans than just plain walls for the living room. This past week we had booked a few days off work to give us a long weekend (5 days, in fact) to get the room done.

Oh boy. We were not prepared.

Long story short (because I really could go on and on about this), it hasn’t gone to plan. We worked solidly for the 5 days and are STILL nowhere near done. I got back to work and the person covering me while I was off went sick so work has been bonkers too as I’ve tried to catch up.

It was also my wife’s birthday in amongst all this madness. So I’m tired, I ache and my house is absolute chaos.

‘Why bother posting at all?’ I hear you say. Well, because I’ve got stuff to share.

The patreon stuff for one, sure. But I also want to talk about the upcoming tournament in Newport!

On Saturday the 23rd of November we are holding a tournament at Sin City Comics & Gaming (at Newport Retail Park!) and we are SUPER excited about it!

This is a new venue for us and as well as all the cool stuff they sell out front there’s a great sized gaming room at the back AND they have a fancy coffee machine and have recently started selling hot food on site too!

Parking is RIGHT outside and free all day and there’s plenty of options for eating and/or drinking afterwards

Tickets are available here so if you’re planning to come get yours soon!

I’ll be sharing soon about the prizes we’ll have. Which leads me on nicely to the next thing to talk about…

Timed PERFECTLY for the start of my house makeover, the XWA Wave 0 Tournament kits went live for order!

Wooooooo!

I came into the project when an awful lot of the leg work had already been done. The main things that still needed to happen was primarily decision making and while it took me a little while to get up to speed on everything, and, after several u-turns, we EVENTUALLY got there!

Personally I’m happy with this initial kit. It provides a generous level of support, covers all factions and has something special for the winner as well as rewarding the TO. I’m satisfied with the price of the kit although, truth be told, the lack of having a logistics network means that the shipping prices are much more impactful than I’d like them to be. Unfortunately since we’re just a small volunteer based organisation there’s basically nothing we can do about it.

I want to take a moment here to thank the prize team for all their work to get us to this point. It’s been challenging but really great to debate points, discussion opinions and options and work together to get us to this point. Thanks to Dale Cromwell, Daniel Lim, Martin Loo and Kester Smith. A huge shout out to Dan Athey too for all the work put in during the initial stages. Legends, every single one.

If you’d like to read the release article then you can find that here and the link to the order form is at the bottom of it! It isn’t too late to get an order in if you’re interested in a kit so why not take a look and see what you think!

So what’s the next point of order for the XWA’s OP Prize team? Well, keep your eyes peeled for future announcements! We are only just getting started and are really excited for what comes next!

In other news, the Cornish Nationals happened this past weekend! Down in the darkest depths of Cornwall (well, not quite the darkest I guess) a host of X-Wing pilots turned up to the Happy Piranha gaming cafe in Truro and played out 5 rounds of swiss and a top 8 cut.

Big congratulations to Sam Cooper for taking the win with a CIS droid swarm and a special mention to Chris Burnett who, like at the Welsh Open, got all teh way to the final only to be beaten by a fellow Tin!

A big shout out as well for Exile Squadron’s very own Josh Hall who finished 2nd in swiss to make the top cut with the same filthy FO list I’ll be talking about next week! Well played Josh!

The conclusion…

Well, another weird blog! I swear, things will get back to normal at some point. They have to, right?

Thanks for taking the time to read my nonsense once again. I’m really looking forward to talking about the game with Josh next week.

In the meantime don’t forget to check out the Wave 0 tournament kit, the tickets for the Newport event and if you’d like any Patreon gifts then time is running out!

That’s it for today. Catch you next week!
